The Redwood

Empire Chapter of Trout Unlimited provided educational information on the status of wild fish in the Russian River Watershed and what needs to be done to help the threatened species.

 

 

 

They also built the Trout Pond where many excited young children caught their first fish.

 

Friday, February 6th, the 2nd Annual Healdsburg Wild Steelhead Festival kicked off with the Steelhead Gala Dinner that was held at Hotel Healdsburg, with dinner prepared by Charlie Palmers' Dry Creek Kitchen. $100. 6pm. Tickets call 707 484 6438.

Saturday, February 7th, was the main event in the Plaza in Downtown Healdsburg, 10am-4pm. This fun day under the tents had educational exhibits, a free trout pond for the young angler's to try their luck, a fly fishing demonstration pond with tips from the pros, fishing gear and boats, art for kids, cooking demos by John Ash and other local chefs,and a live steelhead display. There was also a free shuttle to the Don Clausen Fish Hatchery at Lake Sonoma (directions) , a local art show, music from Rose Town Ramblers, and wine tasting from Preston, Quivira, Steelhead Wines, Truett-Hurst Vineyards, Davis Family Vineyards and Camellia Cellars. Tasty treats from Chef Mateo Granados, Dry Creek Kitchen, Costeaux French Bakery, Vintage Valley Catering, Code 7 Mealtime and Palette Art Cafe.

 

 

Sunday February 8th  offered cooking classes at Relish Culinary and special tours of the Don Clausen Fish hatchery, a fish maze, music, food and art for kids to do. Lake Sonoma, 10-3pm

 

Fishing guides were also available to book for day trips during the weekend.
