Respect, Restore, Celebrate Wild Steelhead!
February 8-10, 2008
The first Annual Wild Steelhead Festival brought public awareness to this threatened species. Attendees celebrated the annual return of our wild Steelhead and learned of the benefits they bring to our community and the efforts being made to enhance their natural habitat through many fun and educational events during the three days.
The Festival kicked off Friday evening at 6pm with the Steelhead Reception in the Lobby at Hotel Healdsburg. The Gala Dinner, prepared by Chef Michael Ellis of the Dry Creek Kitchen Restaurant, was held at Hotel Healdsburg. We are proud to announce that Russell Chatham, reknowned artist and author, joined us as keynote speaker for the evening. For menu, information and tickets, please visit our Tickets and Merchandise page.
Saturday, Under big tents, the
Healdsburg Plaza was the place to be from 10am - 4pm where there were free activities and attractions for kids of all ages. A huge fishing pond was well stocked with trout for the young angler in your family to try their hand at fishing. Poles were provided. There were demonstrations on fly-tying, fly fishing and cooking demos, and the latest in fishing gear you need to enhance your fishing experience. Educational booths were brought to us by the
Department of Fish and Game,
NOAA,
Trout Unlimited ,
Russian Riverkeeper,
Sonoma County Water Agency and many more. There was also arts and crafts to do, and a fish maze, where children could "be the steelhead' and make their way upstream through all sorts of obstacles.
KSRO Radio broadcasted live from the Plaza featuring Garden Talk with Steve Garner and Dave Fazzio from 9-11 followed by The Good Food Hour with Chef John Ash and Steve Garner from 11 -12pm. John Ash joined Relish Culinary in a live fish cooking demo!
